The afternoon sun, warm on my back, felt good as I sorted through the laundry basket. There were mountains of clothes, and nestled amongst the socks and faded jeans, I unearthed something special: a navy blue tee shirt with a lightning bolt across the chest and the name “Alt” on the back. It was a Joe Alt Los Angeles Chargers t-shirt, number 76. I’d snagged it during their pre-season game last year, a total impulse buy fueled by stadium hotdogs and the electric buzz of the crowd. I’d actually wanted the Keenan Allen jersey, but it was just so expensive, and this one, well, it called to me. The thought of supporting a fresh face on the team seemed right.
That particular game day feels like a distant memory now, the roar of the fans, the smell of popcorn and beer, the hopeful energy that always surrounds the start of a new season. I remember the nervous excitement, the hope that this would finally be -their- year, the year the Chargers would make it all the way. We were huddled around the television at my buddy Mark’s place, his place always felt like the Chargers headquarters. He had a whole wall covered in memorabilia, signed footballs and helmets and whatnot. We screamed and high-fived after every play, and shared the usual disappointments too.
Joe Alt Del 76 Los Angeles Chargers T-shirts- About us
I remember watching Joe Alt play college ball at Notre Dame. I’d been keeping tabs on him, admiring his athleticism, the way he seemed to effortlessly dominate the line. There was a quiet confidence about him that I found appealing. You could tell, even through the television screen, that he was a focused and determined player. I really did want him to succeed. I’m always drawn to the underdogs, the ones who seem to have a burning desire to prove themselves.

Description for Joe Alt Del 76 Los Angeles Chargers T-shirts
Putting it on now, the shirt fits a little snugger than it did last year, the reality of age setting in. The color has softened, but the lightning bolt still pops, still representing that electric energy of the game. I really, really liked the way the new guys looked during their first game of the season. Joe Alt specifically, I felt, he did a real solid job.
Joe Alt Del 76 Los Angeles Chargers T-shirts are more than just merchandise, they’re little pieces of a shared fandom, emblems of hope and, yeah, maybe a touch of disappointment too, but mostly hope. They represent the shared experiences of game days and the unwavering loyalty that fans have for their team, even when they break your ass. This worn, slightly imperfect shirt is a reminder of those feelings, and it’s a small, tangible piece of my own personal NFL story.
